3D Scanning Booth
Developer / Modeler / Manager
I managed the 3D Scanning Service at Inside The Box Board Games. The project was set up to that produced miniatures of customers to use in their tabletop games.
I designed the system and workflow which starts by scanning the physical body of the customer in 3D using a Kinect sensor and photography turntable. The booth featured at tabletop games conventions where appointments were booked and customers could select options such as the scale for their model and the shape and texture of its base. Upon returning from the convention, I managed the development team in processing the models. This involved repairing any holes, props or even missing limbs using 3D modelling software. In some cases, a drop in the facial detail required producing a 3D model out of a 2D image of the customer's face, which was appended to the rest of the model. Once a model file had been processed, it was batched and printed in the Formlabs Form 2 SLA 3D Printer. Optimizing this part of the process was about configuring the support structures and orientations of the models to ensure a maximum number could be squeezed into a single batch whilst maintaining minimal print errors. After printing, I handled the quality control and dispatching of the miniatures to the customers' addresses.
All communication and customer service for the project was handled by myself. Ensuring that every customer was pleased with their order and replacing any issues that slipped through QA.
